Graduation Day :-) !!!

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I graduated last year on the 6th of December, what a windy day that was! If it was my choice I would have had it a lot earlier in the year such as June, July . I was going to post this before but got a little side tracked on my dress designs. I graduated in St George’s Hall, Bradford

This is an old pic but think it looks better looking vintage shall we say J

When I was waiting in my seat watching everyone else graduate I had a quick flick through and looked in the Graduation book and there was my name along with everyone else on my course waiting to graduate two!
I felt really good after graduation it felt like I had realy achieved something, even though the gown was the most annoying thing I have ever wore in my life, ha ha J
The sash and hat just kept falling off; I eventually swapped my hat for a smaller one in the end!
THAT WAS IT I was now an official graduate!!
This is my certificate I recived whheeey, alot of Celebrating was done after getting that !

And There was me holding my certificate ...................   Looking verry pleased with myself! :-)

A little something I have been working on!

My friend is planning to get married sometime in the near future and has kindly asked me to produce a wedding dress design from a rough quick sketch she did.....

She pacifically asked for
·         Fish tail
·         Gathering
·         Thin straps
·         Diamantes
I haven’t had chance for her to see my design yet but I just hope it’s what she expected and what she would like , hear is my interpretation of the design bellow.

After my placement at George I thought I may as well try my skill on this dress design, I enjoyed it and al update if any changes are to be made, I just carnt wait to see what she says now :-)!

Bellow is a qwick design just to get me started...........
Without the diamantes straps of course!

George House Two week Voluntary Placement

Workings alongside girls wear and baby wear design teams i really enjoyed my work experience at George, even though I was there for just two week I learnt a great deal in such a short space of time J everyone was so friendly I didn’t want to go home on the last day!
My placement was in  lutterworth leicestershire  these are the tasks that were set and what I learnt wile i was there
·         Pantone colour referencing
·         Competitor and designer research
·         Constructing design boards
·         Categorising clothing rails
·         Power point presentations
·         Working on 2012 winter collection
·         Designing labels for trend folders and filling
·         Commercial awareness
I also learnt how to make my work a lot more commercial which was interesting!
I stayed at The Shambles in lutterworth not too far from George house I really enjoyed my stay :-)

Below are some pictures i took around the village, it was small but a really nice place I wouldn’t say no to living their.

I also found the most Aammaaaazing shop where I popped in to buy a gift, the pic bellow is of their window display, the shop inside had a range of gifts I just wanted to buy everything!

Unfortunately their website does not resemble how the shop looks but they do have a face book group

Emotional masquerade project

The picture bellow is my own photography using masks as inspiration for this project! It all started off from research from different cultural masks and how they have their own stories behind their uses and certain characteristics. I then decided to concentrate on different facial expressions’ and how these could come across as characters. I used my friends to create the effect of different characters. I decided to photograph to make it more interesting, it was more personal to me, I used lighting, Face paint, props and expressions to bring character within my work to influence myself to create something new!

I then created my own paintings to represent the facial expressions’ and how the light affected the expressions. This instantly made me think about repeat!
This idea was then drawn up large so that it could be developed on to a screen in order to create a screen print and length repeat as these designs were been made for theatre curtains this seemed like a great ideas!

Opaque was used to print through the screen as the background colour of the cotton was black. This was a long length repeat! Canvas was also printed on by using a variety of colours chosen from my own photography. Overall this project progressed quite quickly and was exciting to work on!

Playing with design on different surfaces!!

By using the characters individually Wall Stickers seemed like a great idea as it’s the perfect way in easily transferring designs on to other objects and surfaces to brighten them up! Using the website http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/default.aspx as they sell various craft equipment, this is where I purchased my wall sticker paper then printed on the paper with my designs myself!

Also using the stickers to brighten up boxes and any other surfaces to give it some caracter!!

As this design appears on the single linen duvet I feel most of these designes  could be used on other surfaces this is why the design is transferred on to this jigsaw as it still appears to the children’s market and is a fun design to work with.
This clock above has taken inspiration from my developed characters that I have created and used in my design scenarios. The technique is laser cut using plastic to create a different approach to these designs by only using the silhouettes of the characters to simplify the design to make it look a little bit more interesting , including the colour pallet!

Curtain designes!

These designs are taken from collarge the first two top designes have also been digitally printed on to linen for my final collection so they can be used as curtains after they are manipulated in to Cad .

At the beginning of this month I went to the 26th New Designer’s exhibition in Islington. This showcases recent work from fresh out of college, art school graduates. There was so much to choose from, that it is very difficult to decide which work to show. The first work is from Amanda Luke a gra...
